It is an accepted fact that many medical conditions are improved substantially by exercise. Walking and running seem to be the favored methods of getting bodies into shape and forestalling the complications of many diseases. There are times, however, when it might seem jogging may need to wait until another time. In an age when people jog to work, jog at lunch and jog home, what might those times be? Vacations are one of these times. How can you find running trails in your destination city?
Perhaps you’ll be vacationing in Hollywood, Florida. This tourist destination is located conveniently between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. If you don’t mind a bit of driving, you could conceivably cover ground in all three cities, seeing some amazing sights, parks and local spots along the way. Many trails here have restaurants along the paths, so you can bolster your energy or bring up your blood sugar. Let’s get started. Hollywood BoardwalkLocated at 1100 N. Boardwalk, Hollywood, FL 33019, Hollywood Boardwalk offers runners two and one-half miles of sandy jogging. With three oceanfront parks, there is even more territory to take in. Check out the shops, boutiques, restaurants, hotels, and don’t forget to people-watch as you jog.
Hollywood North Beach ParkYou’ll find this park at 3601 N. Ocean Drive, Hollywood, FL 33019, at the end of the Hollywood Boardwalk. Many people enter it from the boardwalk, so tourists often don’t know the park exists. Populated mostly by locals, the park is a protected area. It is often called a throwback to an earlier time, because the 56 acre park only offers a sea turtle exhibit, café, tower and fishing pier.
West Lake ParkAs the name suggests, this park in 1200 Sheridan Street, Hollywood FL 33019 has the lake as its main focus. Boating, kayaking and playing on the playground equipment in the park is a fun day for visitors. You, however, will be running around a pave trail less than a mile long, perhaps with your dog. A look around the mangrove forest and at the birds would be worth the trip.
Brian Piccolo ParkThis one might require a drive to Cooper City, specifically 9501 Sheridan Drive. There will be the park named for one of South Florida’s most loved sportsmen. The park is literally packed with things to do, from picnicking to golf to water sports to family night. Your focus will be on the four and one-half miles of running trails. You might want to check out the fitness zone with its fitness equipment, just for something different.
Don Offer Exercise TrailAventura is a town just south of Hollywood. There, at 19999 W. Country Club Rd., you will enjoy a three mile path. Along this path are chilled water fountains, benches and convenient bags close to trash cans, should you decide Fido needs a run, too. Well-lit and nicely shaded, your run will take you around the golf course, a lovely sight to accompany you.
Stanley Goldman Memorial ParkIn 800 Knights Rd., Hollywood FL 33019 is tucked a gem of a park. Stanley Goldman Memorial Park has been revamped to include a skate park, a roller hockey rink that does part time as a pickleball court, a playground and picnic area with covered shelters. The park includes running trails, too. If you brought Fido along on vacation, the park also hosts Hollywoof Dog Park, with trails for Fido to run along. There is an area for small dogs, too. You’ll have lots of room to run and enjoy the greenery.
